Q1. What drew you to the international trade law?
Because she spent the first few years working in exclusively in Spanish and was a linguist before being a lawyer – so was drawn to the idea of doing something that involved the international element. A few trips to Caribbean in the earlier days of being a lawyer helped too!
I was drawn to international trade law largely because of my background in languages. Before becoming a lawyer, I worked as a linguist, working almost exclusively in Spanish. That naturally led me towards areas of law with a strong international dimension, where I could combine my language skills with legal work. The global nature of international trade, and the opportunity to work across jurisdictions, cultures, and markets, really appealed to me. I was also fortunate to travel to the Caribbean a few times early in my career, which reinforced how interesting and varied international legal work could be, and confirmed that it was the direction I wanted to pursue.
