Joseph Johnson

Joe Johnson is a partner in our firm with broad experience in complex commercial matters.  They include practicing in the area of mergers and acquisitions and structured finance, international shipping and commodities trading matters. He has extensive experience in federal court and New York State court and has handled various international arbitration proceedings.

Joe’s experience includes matters involving alleged fraud in the shipping of commodities, alleged market manipulation in the trading of commodities, and the defense of threatened penalties and sanctions under various regulatory regimes.

Joe is a 1994 graduate of Albany Law School of Union University (cum laude), where he was a member of its law review. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1991. He began his legal career as a clerk to the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, Third Department. Thereafter, Joe became an appellate practitioner, perfecting and arguing more than forty appeals over a five year period. Since that time, Joe has handled a broad range of complex legal matters, with experience as both a commercial litigator and as a corporate attorney.

  • Representation of an investor in Chinese publicly-traded commodities companies in civil litigation and a federal investigation regarding his alleged market manipulation.
  • Representation of a U.S. nationally-branded peanut butter manufacturer in the Southern District of New York against its Mexican exporter regarding the alleged breach of their exportation agreement via various fraudulent means.
  • Representation of an Italian lingerie manufacturer/licensee in the Southern District of New York against its celebrity licensor for breach of contract.
